MANILA, Philippines — A total of 562 inmates from all the prisons and penal farms in the country were released in June, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) reported.
In a statement, BuCor said 121 of those released were acquitted, 321 had served their maximum sentence, 98 were granted parole, 21 were granted probation and one was granted executive clemency.
BuCor director Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. said the bureau has already released a total of 14,657 inmates from June 2022 to June 2024 as part of the bureau’s “Bilis Laya” program.
Catapang said BuCor is continuing its program to improve the quality of life of inmates through the construction of new facilities and rehabilitation of prison and penal facilities nationwide.
He added that the bureau also expanded the e-Dalaw system to enable inmates to connect with their families through video calls and chats.
