MANILA, Philippines — Seven people were confirmed dead and two others injured due to rains enhanced by Typhoon Carina across the country, the national disaster response agency said Tuesday.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), seven of the eight reported fatalities have been validated, but the circumstances of their deaths were still being verified.

Of the verified fatalities, four were from Region 9 (Zamboanga); one each in regions 10 (Northern Mindanao), 11 (Davao) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) while the injured were in Region 10.

At least179,744 families or 866,483 persons were affected. The hardest-hit area is BARMM with 110,648 families or 553,241 persons, followed by Region 12 (SOCCSKSGEN) with 47,892 families or 233,322 persons, the NDRRMC report said

Other areas affected by Carina were Regions 6 (Western Visayas), 7 (Central Visayas) and Caraga.

Seven road networks in Region 9 were rendered not passable to all types of vehicles due to floods.

The NDRRMC also reported that Carina’s strong winds damaged 236 houses. Of the number 69 were totally destroyed.

Initial estimate on damage to agriculture was pegged at P8,745,923.23. At least 748 farmers and fisher folk have been affected by Carina’s heavy rains.

Two areas in Region 12 and one in Region 11 were placed under a state of calamity due to the typhoon.

Up north, 34 areas in Central Luzon were flooded due to non-stop heavy rains.
