AFP appoints new PMA chief

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) hailed Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia as the new Superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad said that it welcomed Valencia in a ceremony held on Saturday in Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City.

Rear Admiral Valencia is a member of the PMA Class 1990 who served as the Philippine Navy Vice Commander in 2022. He was also the Commander of Naval Forces Northern Luzon in 2019 before being appointed Chief of Naval Staff in 2021.

AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr presided over the ceremony which also honored the retirement of Lieutenant General Rowen S. Tolentino, the outgoing PMA Superintendent.

Tolentino served as the 84th PMA Superintendent since August 12, 2022. He previously held key positions including the 42nd Commander of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division, the 18th Commander of the 703rd Infantry “AGILA” Brigade, Deputy Commander of the Philippine Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, and Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army.

In his speech, General Brawner said Lieutenant General Tolentino’s tenure has been marked by dedication, vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence. “Under his guidance, the PMA has continued to uphold its proud traditions while embracing the challenges of the modern world,” he said.

He also extended a warm welcome to the incoming Superintendent, Rear Admiral Valencia who will continue the legacy of excellence and service.

“We are confident that under his leadership, the PMA will continue to thrive and produce leaders of character and integrity ready to serve our beloved country,” General Brawner said.
