The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully carried out a medical emergency evacuation of a Philippine Navy personnel stationed at the BRP Sierra Madre (LS-57) in Ayungin Shoal last Sunday, July 7.
In a series of images and statement released on Tuesday, the PCG said it deployed Philippine vessels—BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) and BRP Cape Engaño (MRRV-4411)—towards the rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) of LS-57 in the vicinity of Ayungin Shoal, also known as Second Thomas Shoal.
The Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) reportedly tried but failed to derail the humanitarian mission, according to the PCG. The Philippines was able to complete the transfer of the sick Navy soldier from the LS-57 RHIB to the PCG vessel.
The evacuated soldier was immediately provided medical attention and is now in stable condition, according to the PCG.
