Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are each making a “one meal” subsistence allowance donation to victims of Super Typhoon Carina and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

In a statement Saturday, AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. said the donation was equivalent to one meal from their subsistence allowance, amounting to P50 per member.

Brawner added that the AFP continues to deploy search, rescue, and retrieval teams in Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, and Northern Luzon to aid in relief and disaster response efforts following the devastation wrought by Carina and the enhanced Habagat.

“This collective effort and selfless sacrifices reflect the AFP’s commitment to aiding those affected by this disaster, demonstrating solidarity and compassion during these challenging times,” Brawner said.

The military deployment includes the Philippine Air Force’s rescue operations last Wednesday for 100 affected residents in Pasay City.

Torrential rains and floods pummeled communities in multiple regions, leaving 34 people dead based on figures released Friday by the Philippine National Police.

Over the past days, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has been inspecting and checking on the progress of relief efforts in affected areas, including Central Luzon on Saturday.

A state of calamity has been declared in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Cavite, and Batangas.

Similar declarations have been made in other areas including Pinamalayan and Baco in Oriental Mindoro; San Andres in Romblon; Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental; Kabacan and Pikit in Cotabato. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
