Even as seasoned actor Aga Muhlach’s famous twins, Andres and Atasha, with his beauty queen-actress wife, Charlene Gonzales, are now 22 years old and starting their showbiz careers, he sheepishly admitted how he just can’t shed his protective side.

At the much-awaited media launch of his upcoming TV5 sitcom, “Da Pers Family” — considered a coup in the industry for casting his entire beautiful family in a single show — the biggest matinee idol of all time confessed he found it “kind of difficult” to work with specifically with his children in the beginning.

“It’s difficult in the sense that, before, when I worked, I only needed to worry about myself — what I needed to do for my scenes,” Aga — who, together with Charlene, have very much emerged as model celebrity parents given how well rounded Andres and Atasha turned out — tried to explain.

“This time, it’s harder for me because I have my family to watch over — these two especially,” he motioned to his kids. “I keep an eye on them when they take their turn on set, and it’s like, once they get the scene done, I can stop holding my breath,” Aga admitted laughing.

What happens next during times like this is that Aga forgets it’s his turn to deliver his lines so when the director yells, “Cut!” he’ll end up worrying all over again that Andres and Atasha will have to redo the scene.

“Nakakatawa ako di’ba? [It’s silly of me really],” the doting dad chuckled. “I guess I just can’t help being a protective dad, even if I know they can do it and they can act. I’m also very happy they decided to join the industry where Charlene and I come from, on their own.”

On the flip side, for Aga, what he enjoys the most about working with Charlene and the twins for the sitcom is getting to spend whole days with them.

“Usually, the four of us are just together at home,” he shared, recalling Andres and Atasha’s childhood, during which time he and Charlene took less showbiz commitments to be with them. Eventually, the twins went to school abroad, but until Atasha went ahead to start in showbiz last year, the Muhlachs were always so cozily stuck together.

Such are the stories that make the public all the more excited to see Aga, Charlene, Andres and Atasha — practically considered First Family in showbiz for their ideal homelife — headline a weekly TV show that even bears a very fitting title.

Premiering July 21, the new weekend series follows the story of the Persival family and The Bake Haus of You, a struggling business owned by Aga and Charlene’s characters. Conflict starts brewing when Aga’s former BFF (portrayed by Roderick Paulate) tries to drive them out of business. The problem, however, brings the Persivals closer together as a battle ensues to battle it out to save their bakery.

Aga and Charlene’s much-anticipated reunion also brings back their “Oki Doki Dok” co-stars, Roderick and Bayani Agbayani and their director Danni Caparas

Completing Da Pers Family’s star-studded cast are Ces Quesada, Heart Ryan, Chad Kinis, Kedebon Colim, Sam Coloso, and more.

Catch the Muhlachs this Sunday, 7:15 p.m. on TV5, with catch-up airings on Sari-Sari Channel, Mondays at 7 p.m.
