MANILA, Philipines — Social Welfare Secretary Rexlon “Rex” Gatchalian said that the Davao Field Office-11 (Davao Region) was operational and catered to people’s social welfare requests. Gatchalian issued the statement on Monday in response to claims about the alleged suspension of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) in the Davao Region. Davao City First District Rep. Paolo Duterte blasted the DSWD for reportedly failing to provide funding for his office’s AICS program.
Duterte also said that the DSWD has ceased distributing funds to those seeking medical treatment in his district. The Field Office-11 released an advisory indicating that it continued to serve all of its citizens, particularly those in need of medical and funeral assistance, as well as other support services.
The Field Office 11 informed Davaoeños that it has the funding to administer the AICS and was ready to serve all.
The AICS is part of the DSWD’s protective services program, which provides financial and material assistance, psychosocial support, and referral services to crisis-affected individuals and families as determined by social workers.
