COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Rescuers found on Thursday the cadavers of two girls swept away by floodwater that hit several barangays in Matanog town, Maguindanao del Norte late Tuesday.
Firefighters, police and members of the Philippine Navy 1st Marine Brigade found the girls’ bodies at a secluded spot in Barangay Campo Uno.
The teams continued their search for four others who were carried away by the flood.
The rescuers identified the fatalities as Norhaina Butil, 11, and her three-year-old-sister Norhaine.
Brig. Gen. Prexy Tanggawohn, Bangsamoro police regional director, told reporters yesterday that policemen and local emergency responders are also searching for grade school pupils Sheila and Ela Abdullah, who were reported missing in Barangay Molimok in Lanao del Sur’s Balabagan town.
The flooding reportedly destroyed 400 houses in four Lanao del Sur towns and more than 200 houses in Maguindanao.
