MANILA, Philippines — The municipality of Cainta in Rizal declared a state of calamity due to the effects of floods brought by a typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon. “The southwest monsoon and Typhoon Carina’s continuous onslaught of rain since yesterday has brought severe flooding, causing huge damage to property and disruption of livelihood of our residents in all seven barangay (villages),” Cainta Mayor Elenita Nieto said.
“We will continue to provide relief and to conduct rescue operations, with the goal of restoring our town,” she added.
Metro Manila has been placed under a state of calamity after heavy rains enhanced by Typhoon “Carina” flooded many streets.
Meanwhile, the waters at the Marikina River continued to go down with the rains ceasing.
As of 9 a.m., the water level was recorded at 15 meters or under the first alarm and was expected to go down further.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office announced at 5:45 a.m., that the alarm was now just at first with the water level at 15.6 meters.
