(The Manila Times is reposting the article to correct its first report that included Quezon City as having suspended classes. Our apologies.)
MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE) Four cities in northern Metro Manila suspended classes in all levels on Tuesday due to the heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” spawned by Typhoon “Carina.”
Caloocan Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan told The Manila Times that the suspension of classes was based on the recommendation of the City Risk Reduction and Management Department (CRRMD).
In Malabon, City Administrator Alexander Rosete said that Mayor Jeannie Sandoval also suspended classes from pre-school to college, both in public and private schools.
Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the suspension of classes was also recommended by its risk reduction and management office as floods were expected to worsen due to the high tide.
Meanwhile, classes in all levels in public and private schools in Valenzuela City were suspended following an announcement from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) of yellow (heavy) rainfall warning, Mayor Weslie Gatchalian said.
