The reported fatalities due to the impact of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat as well as Tropical Cyclones Butchoy and Carina have increased to 36, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.
In its 8 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said the victims died due to drowning, landslide, electrocution, and falling tree.
Of the 36 reported deaths, 14 have been confirmed including five in Calabarzon, four in Zamboanga Peninsula, two in Central Luzon and one each in Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Twenty-two reported deaths are still up for validation including 15 in Metro Manila, five in Calabarzon, and one each in Ilocos Region and BARMM.
Also, six people were reported missing including two in Ilocos Region and one in Northern Mindanao, while six people were reported injured including four in Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) and two in Northern Mindanao.
4M people affected
The weather disturbances have affected a total of 4,553,752 people or 1,240,090 families in all regions of the country.
Of the affected population, 152,800 persons or 38,292 families were staying in evacuation centers while 641,944 individuals or 134,235 families were taking shelter in other places.
Power supply remained a problem in 39 of the 119 affected areas. Also, the water supply in the Zamboanga Peninsula, one of the eight affected areas, has yet to be restored.
A domestic flight canceled in the Ilocos Region has yet to be resumed but 92 domestic flights and eight international flights in different parts of the country have resumed.
Eleven of the 22 affected sea ports in Ilocos Region and Mimaropa have yet to resume operations. Due to this, two rolling cargoes and five motorbancas were still stranded.
Classes were suspended in 502 areas and work schedules were suspended in 476 areas, according to the NDRRMC.
P1.6B infra damage
Damage to infrastructure worth P1,691,792,804.84 was reported.
Also, damage to agriculture worth P355,604,659 and to irrigation facilities worth P6,560,000 were reported.
A total of 1,598 houses were damaged — 1,393 partially and 205 totally.
State of calamity was declared in the following areas:
- Bauang In La Union
- Bataan
- Pampanga
- Bulacan
- Cavite
- San Mateo in Rizal
- Pinamalayan and Baco in Oriental Mindoro
- San Andres in Romblon
- Jose Abad Santos (Trinidad) in Davao Occidental
- Kabacan and Pikit in Cotabato
- Metro Manila
