THE Department of Science and Technology (DoST) has recognized seven research and development (R&D) project teams for their implementation of innovative initiatives.
DoST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. lauded the awardees, emphasizing the impact of their projects on Filipino communities.
“We look forward to the project outputs of our researchers being used by the Filipinos in the long run. Our desire to have our citizens benefit from our R&D outputs powers the strong drive to push towards technology commercialization,” Solidum said.
Receiving the Excellence in Project Implementation and Completion (EPIC) Award, the Perpsat1 project by the University of Perpetual Help System (UPHS) Amateur Satellite Ground Station Development of the UPHS Dalta in Las Piñas., enabling satellite communication; the Kwadra 1905 Technology Business Incubator from Iloilo Science and Technology University; and the Solid Freeform Fabrication Research Laboratory at Pangasinan State University, equipped with advanced 3D printing technologies.
LMS Solutions Philippines was acknowledged for its integrated school management system, and Mindanao State University’s NanoTox Project for enhancing safety in nanotechnology applications.
Ateneo de Manila University, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP), developed a chemical safety training course for PNP personnel, enhancing safety protocols in firearms and explosives handling.
The Pectin-Carrageenan Mixtures project from the University of San Carlos, focusing on hydrogel properties characterization, was also lauded.
The awards, conferred by the DoST Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DoST-PCIEERD), were part of its 14th anniversary celebration.
Criteria for the EPIC award included timely project completion, achieving 100 percent of targets, and efficient budget utilization of at least 85 percent.
Enrico Paringit, executive director of DoST-PCIEERD, encouraged researchers to draw inspiration from the awardees’ achievements.
Since 2020, DoST-PCIEERD has invested P6 billion in 2,176 R&D projects, supporting advancements in industry, energy, and emerging technologies. As of 2023, 256 projects have been completed, with 413 ongoing.
