In commemoration of National Disaster Resilience Month, a week-long celebration of vigilance and preparedness entitled Benilde PRIME empowered students with essential life-preservation skills.

Themed Promoting Resilience through Innovation in Managing Emergencies, the exercise was organized by the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Center for Emergency Management, Safety, and Security, and the Benilde Alumni Association.

It gathered learners and faculty members from Benilde Senior High School to hone their technical capabilities to deal with natural calamities and accident situations. It was also participated by students and associates from the college’s various programs.

During the initiative, event partners including the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) presented an educational roadshow comprised of interactive lectures and formal learning sessions.

The professionals guided the audience in essential medical assistance, including occupational first aid and initial treatment for injuries. They demonstrated CPR for various emergencies such as choking, cardiac arrest, and trauma.

Ropemanship, including knot-tying and evacuation procedures, was covered. Participants had hands-on experience with fire extinguishers and water hoses.

The responders showcased their equipment, including ambulances, trucks, and boats, and demonstrated tools for rescuing people in various situations.

MMDA practitioners provided a 4.0 to 7.0 Richter scale earthquake simulation and discussed earthquake defense strategies. Pocket seminars covered topics such as cybercrime prevention, climate change adaptation, and survival methods during disasters.

Speakers included PNP Anti-Cyber Crime Lieutenant Colonel Mark Turingan, MDRRMO Training Section Chief Manuel Joseph, MMDA Training Center Head Luther Castuera, and nutritionist Jo Ann Marie Salamat.

The event also featured a blood donation drive organized by PRC and Manila Doctors Hospital.
