CAPAS, Tarlac — The Department of Transportation (DoTr) on Thursday said it has wrapped up a pre-feasibility study on the possible first urban cable car system in the country.
Undersecretary Timothy John Batan said that they are looking at establishing a “feeder line” that will connect MRT 4’s Taytay Station to Antipolo City.
“We are working on a cable car project going up to Antipolo. One of the best applications of cable car technology is in mountainous terrain. The ADB (Asian Development Bank) is supporting us on MRT 4, and as part of the ADB’s support for MRT 4 is a pre-feasibility study for an urban cable car project connecting MRT 4 in Taytay up to Antipolo,” Batan said during the Build Better More (BBM) Infrastructure Forum held at the New Clark City here.

“We’re designing the project, and then we’re going to bid it out,” he added, citing France, Switzerland and Germany as possible bidders.
The choice of putting the feeder line in Taytay-Antipolo is due to the dense population and economic activity there, making it “complementary to MRT 4.”
“The project appears viable, we just need to do further studies and that’s what we would be working on towards the end of this year,” Batan said.
The use of a cable car system has long been proposed by various parties amid the worsening traffic in the country, especially in Metro Manila.
