A concert by Irish musician Hozier has been cancelled because of flooding.

Scheduled for Tuesday evening at Chepstow Racecourse, Monmouthshire, organisers said they were left with “no other option” but to cancel the show.

“This decision was extremely difficult for us, especially knowing that many of you planned your travels around the tour schedule,” they said.

The Take Me To Church singer said he was “absolutely gutted” by the news and that refunds would be issued to fans.

The gig, part of the venue’s Summer Sessions series, was set to follow shows from Shania Twain and Tom Jones in the past week.

Hozier, who’s recent single Too Sweet reached number one in both the US and UK, offered his “sincere apologies” to everyone who had tickets to the show.

“I hope we can do it again, Chepstow,” he said.

In a statement, organisers said: “Unfortunately, due to the persistent heavy rainfall, the ground conditions left us with no other option.

“Despite our efforts to pump out the water and take corrective measures, the ongoing rain has prevented these efforts from being successful.

“Rescheduling was not possible at this time due to existing schedule commitments. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

It comes as a Met Office yellow thunderstorm warning, covering much of Wales, is in place from 14:00 BST to 23:59 on Tuesday.
