MANILA, Philippines — Former Manila mayor Isko Moreno may seek to reclaim his post under Aksyon Demokratiko, a political party he heads as president.
Aksyon Demokratiko, in a statement, belied reports that Moreno would run for mayor next year under another party.
In a message sent to reporters, Aksyon Demokratiko maintained Moreno is still in the party.
“Mayor Isko will remain and will run under Aksyon Demokratiko if ever he decides to go for a political office in 2025,” the party said.
Moreno ran for president under Aksyon Demokratiko in 2022.
Previous reports said Moreno planned to run for mayor in 2025 under a new political party, identified as Bagong Maynila.
Moreno was also said to have ended his association with Asenso Manilenyo, established by the late former Manila vice mayor Danilo Lacuna.
Asenso Manilenyo is the party of Lacuna’s eldest daughter, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Vice Mayor John Marvin Nieto and most of the city’s councilors.
Following the reports, Lacuna-Pangan appealed to her “dear brother” Moreno to “reconsider his plans.”
