Amid the 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, labor groups will hold a protest action on Monday to urge the President to certify the proposed P150 wage hike increase.
In an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Nagkaisa Labor Coalition spokesperson Renato Magtubo said labor groups under the National Wage Coalition will assemble at 7 a.m. along University Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City.

The National Wage Coalition is composed of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP) and Nagkaisa Labor Coalition.
Magtubo said they will hold a program before they begin their march along Commonwealth Avenue to the Batasang Pambansa where the SONA will be held.
“Ang panawagan namin sa SONA, President BBM i-certify mo na ng urgent ang mga wage bill sa kongreso at kay (House) Speaker (Martin) Romualdez na ipasa na, kasi ang status na ng bills dyan ay sa House of Representative naka tatlong hearing na yan sa labor committee. Kailangan ng committee report para isalang sa plenaryo,” Magtubo said.
(Our appeal for the SONA is for President Marcos to certify the wage bill in Congress as urgent, and for Speaker Romualdez to approve them, because it has already undergone three hearings in the labor committee in the House of Representatives. It needs a committee report for it to be tackled in the plenary.)
He added that Marcos should also address the lack of regular employment in the country and the increase in the prices of goods and services.
Magtubo said their group has secured a permit to conduct a protest and ensure they will have a peaceful march.
Labor groups have been calling on Marcos to certify the proposed measure for a P150 increase in the daily minimum wage for private sector employees as urgent since the P35 increase is not enough.
Earlier this month, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board approved a P35 hike in the daily minimum wage of workers in the National Capital Region.
This means from P610, workers in the non-agricultural sector will a P645 minimum daily minimum wage.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
