MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) collected close to P1 billion in revenues, coming from penalties from erring motorists.
On Tuesday, the agency said they collected P986.5 million in revenues, coming from penalties that were paid by motorists who were apprehended for traffic violations in the first semester of this year.
LTO’s data revealed that from January 1 to June 30, a total of 330,073 motorists were apprehended nationwide as part of Mendoza’s order to “intensify road safety measures and ensure road courtesy and discipline.”
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, said this was an “offshoot” from Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista in implementing traffic laws for road safety.
“The almost P1 billion collection from fines and penalties alone is a result of the hard work of our law enforcers and other personnel on the ground. We cannot achieve this without their dedication and commitment to ensure road safety,” Mendoza said in a statement.
The target revenue collection for the LTO is set for P33 billion for this year.
