A 59-year-old barangay watchman and farmer from Barangay Casasahan Ibaba, Gumaca, Quezon was found dead after he was reportedly struck by lightning.
According to the statement of the victim’s family to the Gumaca Police, the man left early in the morning to tend to his livestock.
His family grew concerned when he did not return by afternoon. They began searching and eventually found his body, which bore burn marks.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Marnie Abellanida, Acting Chief of Gumaca Police Station, said.
Abellanida added.
The victim was alone at the time of the incident, according to authorities.
The victim’s remains have been brought home and the police have decided not to conduct an autopsy.
Authorities continue to advise heightened caution and awareness during thunderstorms to prevent similar incidents.
—GMA Regional TV
