(UPDATES) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday sent his greetings to Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on its 110th founding anniversary, noting the religious group’s “enduring faith, dedication and positive impact” were commendable.
“May you continue to be an inspiration not only to your community but to the entire country. Your tireless service and works reflect unity, progress and a deeper understanding as a people,” Marcos said.
“In every act of goodness and concern, may we be instruments of change in our society so that we may realize a new Philippines that is beneficial for everyone,” he added.
INC was founded by Felix Manalo on July 27, 1914, and its first church was built in Punta, Sta. Ana, Manila.
From only a dozen followers, its membership has grown to around 2.25 million worldwide.
INC’s 110th anniversary celebration at Ciudad de Victoria on Saturday was titled “People of God Should Continue to Please Him.”
Known for bloc voting, INC supported Marcos’ candidacy during the 2016 and 2022 elections.
The Northern Luzon Expressway said heavy traffic was expected in surrounding areas of the Philippine Arena on Saturday. It advised motorists going to the area to take alternate routes and allot more travel time.
