MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday ordered all government agencies to focus on “critical areas” that were severely affected by the heavy rains spawned by a typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon.

Marcos said this as he led a situation briefing at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Wednesday.

“Our response so far has been good. I just told them to focus carefully on those areas that are presently isolated,” Marcos told reporters in a chance interview.

The President directed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to continue assisting those affected by the typhoon and to work with the Office of the Civil Defense.

“This is important because they have not eaten for days. So as soon as possible, we have to be ready to come in because they are our priority. These are critical situations,” he said.
