ILOCOS NORTE – President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday vowed to improve power supply in Palawan through the help of Maharlika Investment Corporation (MIC), the state-owned firm running the Philippines’ first sovereign wealth fund.

During the distribution of presidential aid to farmers and fisherfolks in Palawan, Marcos said the MIC as well as the National Electrification Administration and the Palawan Electric Cooperative would conduct a study to improve power supply in the province.

(Part of our priority is to boost the tourism in your province and improve the transportation. We will accomplish this through the Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project and Pag-asa Island Airport Development Project.)

(We also know your concerns, first is the lack of supply of electricity.)

(To address this, the Maharlika Investment Corporation, National Electrification Administration, and Palawan [Electric] Cooperative will conduct a study to improve the supply of electricity in your province. We are hoping for a positive result of this agreement.)

In his speech, Marcos recognized Palawan as a popular tourist destination because of its islands and national parks.

Marcos provided cash assistance worth P10,000 each to 20 select beneficiaries from the Region as well as nearly P100 million in financial aid to the City Government of Puerto Princesa and Provincial Governments of Palawan and Marinduque.

In response to the challenges brought by extreme heat and drought, the government also handed over agri-fishery assistance packages consisting of farm machineries, fishing equipment, seedlings, fertilizers and financial support as part of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) continued commitment to strengthen the country’s agriculture sector.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
