Meralco customers still without power down to 9,000

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said on Saturday that the number of customers still without power following the onslaught of tropical cyclone Carina and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) has been reduced to less than 1% of its total customer base.

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, the power distributor said affected customers, who are mostly in Metro Manila and Bulacan, were down to around 9,000.

“Majority of the remaining affected customers are expected to be restored within the day, while full restoration is expected by tomorrow,” said Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications Joe Zaldarriaga.

Meralco said its line crew and personnel will not stop until electricity services are fully restored to all the remaining affected customers.

“Once again, we would like to extend our thanks to our customers for their patience and understanding. Rest assured that our line crew and personnel are all following protocols to make sure it is already safe for our customers before services are restored,” said Zaldarriaga.

Meanwhile, the One Meralco Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Meralco, continues its disaster relief operations.

Meralco said thousands of relief packs have been turned over to affected families in Barangays Sto. Domingo and Tatalon in Quezon City; Barangay Sto. Domingo in Cainta, Rizal; Pasig City; Valenzuela City; Barangay Tinajeros in Malabon City; Katipunan Village in Rodriguez, Rizal; and Barangay Tabing Ilog in Marilao, Bulacan.
