The Navotas City government has teamed up with the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) and Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) for the deployment of aqua trash collector bots (Aquabot) in the city’s waterways.

“The deployment of the Aquabot represents a concrete step toward cleaner waterways. I urge every Navoteño to support this initiative and take an active role in keeping our city clean and sustainable,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco said on Thursday.

“Our city is our home. Let’s cherish and protect it by ensuring cleanliness, sustainability, and community involvement. Together, we can make Navotas a model of urban stewardship and pride,” he added.

The Aquabot, developed by TUP and funded by DoST, is a remote-controlled solid waste collector for small bodies of water, such as creeks and canals. It can collect up to 20 kilos of garbage per hour.

Twenty residents of each barangay (village) will be trained how to operate the Aquabot, the mayor said.

Tiangco added the equipment will enhance the city’ solid waste management capabilities, which is crucial to the health and well-being of the community.
