The initial cost of damage to the facilities of electric cooperatives due to the devastation caused by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by Typhoon Carina was P3,142,720.91, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) said Thursday.

As of July 25, the NEA said the estimated damage was incurred by Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO), Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO), Mountain Province Electric Cooperative (MOPRECO), Zambales II Electric Cooperative (ZAMECO II), and Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative (OMECO).

The number of consumer connections affected reached 114,565.

The electrification agency added that a total of 22 electric cooperatives from 15 provinces and six regions were placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals (TCWS) due to the weather disturbances.

Of the 22 electric cooperatives, 13 are in normal operations, namely:

  • La Union Electric Cooperative
  • Pangasinan I Electric Cooperative
  • Pangasinan III Electric Cooperative
  • Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative
  • Batanes Electric Cooperative
  • Zambales I Electric Cooperative
  • Tarlac II Electric Cooperative
  • Pampanga I Electric Cooperative
  • Pampanga III Electric Cooperative
  • Pampanga III Electric Cooperative
  • Pampanga Rural Electric Service Cooperative
  • Batangas Electric Cooperative
  • Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative

The NEA said 236 municipalities out of 287 or 82.23% affected by power interruptions are already restored, while 34 are partially restored.

These nine electric cooperatives are still under partial power interruption:

  • Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative
  • Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative
  • Benguet Electric Cooperative
  • Mountain Province Electric Cooperative
  • Abra Electric Cooperative
  • Zambales II Electric Cooperative
  • Peninsula Electric Cooperative
  • Tarlac I Electric Cooperative
  • Occidental Mindoro Electric Cooperative
