(UPDATES) THE Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Friday said that a new low-pressure area (LPA) was sighted 1,035 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao, but its effect will not be felt in the country for the next 48 hours.
“It was forecast to unlikely affect the country in at least over the next 48 hours, but it would bring rain in some areas,” Pagasa weather specialist James Daniel Villamil said.
Monsoon rains brought by the southwest monsoon are affecting the Ilocos Region, Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
It could bring occasional rains over Bataan, Zambales and Pampanga, the state-run weather agency said in its 5 a.m. advisory.
The same weather system would be affecting Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, where overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail, while isolated downpours would be likely over the Visayas.
Meanwhile, it would be generally fair weather over Mindanao within the next 24 hours, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms expected in late afternoon or at night.
Pagasa said that Typhoon Carina, which enhanced the southwest monsoon triggering floodings in Luzon, was now out of the Philippine area of responsibility.
