In a step toward gender equality, the event also marked the opening of a new women’s dormitory, accommodating over 20 students per grade. This initiative reflects NYK’s commitment to fostering a diverse workforce and supporting the development of female Filipino seafarers.

Since its establishment in 2007, NTMA has graduated 1,551 students who serve as officers and engineers on NYK-operated ships. Significant milestones include the first NTMA graduate achieving the rank of ship captain in April 2021 and the first chief engineer in April 2022. NTMA alumni hold key positions in maritime hubs like Japan, Singapore and Australia, demonstrating their global impact.

NYK plans to expand global seafarer training programs to cultivate skilled professionals and lead in sustainable shipping practices worldwide.
