A significant majority of adult Filipinos are in favor of the banning of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) in the country, according to a recent OCTA Research survey.
The most recent Tugon ng Masa survey showed that of the 1,200 respondents, 83% answered “yes,” while 12% responded “no,” and 5% said they “don’t know enough to give an opinion.”
“Among major areas, Balance Luzon (90%) has the highest agreement rating on banning POGO operations in the country. The National Capital Region (20%) has the highest disagreement rating on banning POGO operations,” the OCTA Research said.
The non-commissioned survey was taken using face-to-face interviews from June 26 to July 1, 2024.
The same survey also found that 85% of Filipinos will support candidates who oppose POGO operations in the country.
Meanwhile, 12% said they will not support candidates who are in favor of a nationwide ban on POGOs.
“Among major areas, Balance Luzon has the highest voting preference for the candidate who supports banning POGO operations in the country, with 93%,” OCTA Research said.
OCTA Research said the survey has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level. Subnational estimates for the geographic areas covered in the survey have the following margins of error at a 95% confidence level: ±6% for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
During his third State of the Nation Address on Monday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said he is banning all POGOs in the country by the end of the year.
Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) chairperson Alejandro Tengco earlier appealed to Malacañang that 12 of the 43 POGO companies in the Philippines be spared from the ban as these are customer service agents for gaming companies.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
