The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said on Tuesday that an individual had been arrested for threatening and extorting money from a lawyer.

According to the NBI, operatives of the Central Mindanao Office (CEMRO) arrested the individual during an entrapment operation in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, on July 26.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said that this was after a complaint was filed against a certain “Aliyah” for robbery extortion.

The complainant said he first met Aliyah through Telegram. Aliyah tried to borrow money when they met on April 25, but the complainant refused.

Aliyah then accused the complainant of touching him and threatened to expose the lawyer as a scammer. Aliyah also allegedly said that he would post the complainant’s face on social media and tell the public that he had maliciously touched him.

The complainant gave Aliyah P3,500, hoping that he would stop threatening him, but Aliyah continued asking for money.

It was when Aliyah asked for P15,000 to P20,000 that the complainant filed a complaint before the NBI-CEMRO.

The NBI said that Aliyah was presented for inquest proceedings before Koronadal prosecutors for robbery extortion under Article 294(5) of the Revised Penal Code as amended. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
