A kind, helpful, cheerful person: this is the memory of Geneva Lopez that her loved ones held in their hearts at the wake of the Kapampangan beauty pageant contestant over the weekend.

“Willing siya parati tumulong, whether emotionally, spiritually at kung ano man pwede niyang maitulong. Kung puwede lang humingi ng wish, palit na lang kami. Ganoon ako ka-willing na ipagpalit ‘yung buhay ko kapalit kung nasaan siya ngayon,”  said Lian Dasco, Lopez’s best friend, in Jasmine Gabriel Galban’s report on 24 Oras on Monday.

(She was always willing to help, whether emotionally, spiritually and however she could help. If I could ask for a wish, I’d wish for us to switch places. That is how willing I am to exchange my life for her.)

Authorities found the bodies of Lopez and her Israeli boyfriend Yitshak Cohen in a quarry site in Barangay Sta. Lucia, Capas, Tarlac more than two weeks after they were reported missing.

In a statement, the Lopez family thanked those who helped in the search for the victims. They also asked for privacy as they mourn her.

According to their legal counsel, the family expressed fear for their safety as two of the persons of interest in the case are former police officers.

“Noong unang nalaman nila na ‘yung isa o dalawa na persons of interest ay dating mga pulis, mayroon na pong takot. Hindi mawawala ‘yung agam-agam sa kanila, isyempre, ‘yung takot,” lawyer Jon Lacanlale said.

(When they found out that the one or two persons of interest were former police officers, there was already fear. The doubt and fear, of course, will not disappear from them.)

According to the autopsy results, both Lopez and Cohen bore two gunshot wounds.

“Makikiusap po kami sa PNP [Philippine National Police] at NBI [National Bureau of Investigation] kung pwede kaming mabigyan ng details at documents, mga evidence that we could use to file a case, ‘yun na lang pong kulang namin,” said Lacanlale.

(We are asking the PNP and NBI if we could have the details and documents, evidence that we can use to file the case because that is what we lack.)

Lopez was cremated on Sunday. Cohen’s remains will be flown back to Israel with his family.  — Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
