Nature, culture and community woven together for a better future: this will be the theme of the Philippine Pavilion for World Expo 2025, to be held in Osaka, Japan.

This announcement was made by The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines at an event at the Ayala Museum in Makati City on Tuesday.

At the event, TPB COO Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles said Japan stands as a key ally not just in tourism but in many industries, which makes the Philippines’ participation in the expo more important.

Expo 2025 will run from April to October next year, with the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Nograles said that the theme conveys the hope that humanity can start over, reconnect, and explore different ways to build a lasting future.

The event also featured a  preview of the Philippine Pavilion, designed by architect Carlo Calma.

The facade draws inspiration from our indigenous weaving tradition, celebrating our nation’s rich diversity and interconnectedness of cultures.

The Pavilion will also feature the first ever live performance woven into its facade at the World Expo.

There will also be an immersive, multi-sensory space that leverages technology to present the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines’ 18 regions.

DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said the Philippines’ presence at the Expo will be a testament of the enduring and dynamic relationship between the Philippines and Japan, adding that Japan has consistently been one of the Philippines’ top tourist markets.

For 2024, the DOT anticipates over half a million arrivals from the Japanese market, and expects the number to go even higher in light of the Philippines’ presence at the Osaka expo. — BM, GMA Integrated News
