Several key officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) are also on their way out after tendering their courtesy resignations to give incoming Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara more leeway in the agency.
DepEd Undersecretary and spokesperson Michael Poa made the announcement, including himself among the list of officers leaving the department. Their last day of office is also this Friday, July 19, the same day as outgoing Education Secretary Sara Duterte.
Other officials who have confirmed their departure include Assistant Secretaries Sunshine Fajarda (Office of the Secretary), Reynold Munsayac (Procurement), Noel Baluyan (Administration) and Undersecretary for Administration Nolasco Mempin.
Poa, who also serves as Chief of Staff to Duterte, said their decision to resign is meant to give way for the incoming DepEd Secretary “to choose people that will form part of his team,” he said in a Viber message.
On Monday, Angara disclosed through a radio interview that several DepEd officials have left their posts.
The change of leadership ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 18, at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City. Duterte is expected to attend the event. –With Rolando Ng III
