(UPDATES) THE Presidential Security Command (PSC) on Wednesday committed to protecting Vice President Sara Duterte following the recall of police officers from her protective security detail.
This was the message sent to reporters by PSC commander Brig. Gen. Nelson Morales, after Duterte confirmed that 75 police and Security and Protection Group officers assigned to her have been recalled by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Police chief Rommel Marbil said the PNP pulled out its officers from Duterte's security detail as the office is no longer under the PNP but the PSC.
He said that the withdrawn officers would instead be used to address the PNP's shortage of personnel, especially in Metro Manila.
Duterte assured the public that it would not affect her job as vice president.
“I do hope, however, that with this latest directive of the Chief PNP, we hear [fewer] cries from the people regarding the proliferation of drugs in the country and that even fewer shall fall victim to various criminal activities,” Duterte said in a statement.
“Our work will continue so we can deliver service to our countrymen, especially to the remote or under-served communities in the country,” she added.
