Senator Risa Hontiveros on Friday refuted suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo’s statement asking why lawmakers seemed fixated on her instead of focusing on issues such as food shortage and lack of healthcare.
The lawmaker, who leads the Senate investigation into the raided POGO hub in Guo’s town, slammed the embattled mayor for issuing statements on Facebook instead of facing the allegations raised against her during the hearings.
“Mayor Alice Guo o Guo Hua Ping, mas marami pa kayong post sa Facebook kaysa sa attendance sa Senate hearing,” she said. “So sadly for you, hindi katumbas ng attendance mo sa Senado ang maya’t-maya mong pagso-social media.”
(Mayor Alice Guo or Guo Hua Ping, you post more on Facebook than attending the Senate hearing. So sadly for you, your constant posting on social media doesn’t match your Senate attendance.)
“Attendance before the Senate hearings is adherence to the rule of law,” Hontiveros stressed.
In her earlier statement, Guo said she believes in the “rule of law” as she denied her involvement on the supposed death threats against Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who is also actively participating in the Senate investigation.
Hontiveros also took a swipe on Guo mentioning that her current priorities are her health and peace of mind.
“Paano ka magkakaroon ng peace of mind kung palagi ka na lang iiwas sa mga tanong? Kung nakakalimutan mo, pinapatawag ka dahil nasa gitna ka ng pang-aabuso ng POGO sa mga batas natin, na hinayaan mong lumawak dahil sa impluwensya mo bilang Mayor,” she said.
(How can you peace of mind when you are always avoiding [the Senate hearing]. In case you’ve forgotten, you’re being called because you are in the middle of abuses being committed by POGO to our laws, which you have allowed to spread due to your influence as a mayor.)
“Nagsinungaling ka tungkol sa koneksyon mo sa POGO, nagsinungaling ka tungkol sa pagkatao mo, at kada log-in mo sa Facebook, may bago ka na namang iniimbento,” she stated.
(You lied about your connection to POGO, you lied about your personality and every time you log-on into Facebook, you fabricate new ones.)
Guo, who is currently suspended from her post, has been the subject of a Senate inquiry in connection with alleged illegal activities in the raided POGO in Bamban.
Senators have also questioned her identity following inconsistencies with her answers regarding her nationality and personal life.
The Senate has already ordered Guo’s arrest for failing to show up in the probe of the raided POGO hub in Bamban. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
