MANILA, Philippines — For the first time, Vice President Sara Duterte is skipping the third State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, reinforcing speculations of a widening gap between the two.
In a chance interview with reporters in Davao City on Thursday, Duterte was asked if she would attend Marcos’s SONA on July 22.
“No. No, I will not attend sa (the) SONA. I am appointing myself as the designated survivor,” Duterte said.
Duterte’s response ended the guessing game following her resignation as Education secretary after first lady Louise Araneta Marcos expressed her displeasure over her presence at an event where her father, former resident Rodrigo Duterte, criticized her husband.
