Stress eating can cause health problems such as elevated cholesterol level, one becomes prone to developing diabetes, and nutritional problems, according to the “Fit Track” report of Katrina Son on “State of the Nation.”

He did not notice that he was gaining weight until he had a heart attack and had to undergo angioplasty.

Ducas has since changed his attitude and now avoids stress eating.

Elgiene Paspe, a businesswoman, thinks of food when she is stressed while working.

“Kahit papaano, nababawasan yung stress na napi-feel mo. Kapag minsan hindi ka maka-connect sa customer,” Paspe said.

An expert said that a person feels happy when stress-eating and that even if a person does not eat a lot but eats often, this can be considered stress eating.

“Stress eating is actually not normal, kasi parang nabubuhos mo ang problema mo sa pagkain at usually ang kinakain mo hindi talaga healthy like chocolates, maybe cakes (or) something sugary,” said Dr. Ma. Bernadette M. Arcena, a psychiatrist.

“Kasi ang feeling natin, ‘pag nandun ang comfort food natin, we are energized,” she added.

The dangers of stress eating, include:
