Hot and bankable actresses Sue Ramirez and Barbie Imperial are set to headline a gripping new film titled “How To Slay A Nepo Baby.” The movie, produced by Viva Films and Happy Infinite Productions, promises to be a suspense-filled ride that explores themes of privilege, danger, and survival.

The slang “nepo baby” started to be used around 2022 as a shortcut for “nepotism baby,” a term referring to people whose parents have succeeded in similar or related careers. The implication is that nepo babies use connections to get ahead.

“People describe ‘repo babies’ as spoiled rich kids who think highly of themselves but are nothing without their parent’s wealth,” the film’s director, Rod Marmol, elaborated at a media conference in Viva Cafe, Cubao, Quezon City. Marmol is a Famas-nominated screenwriter and multi-awarded director known for his ability to blend gripping narratives with intense character studies.

‘How to Slay a Nepo Baby’ explores what happens when privilege is stripped away and survival becomes the ultimate test. It opens in cinemas nationwide on July 31.

The plot of “How to Slay a Nepo Baby” centers around a group of wealthy friends who travel to Sagada, a picturesque town in the Philippines, to celebrate their work anniversary. The group includes Ada, the “Queen Bee” played by Ramirez; J, an influencer and Ada’s boyfriend; Bella, a model; Kel and Sho, twins from a wealthy Spanish family; and Cass, the newest member. Nepo babies through and through, the characters are portrayed as entitled and carefree.

Once there, the gang’s plans for a wild night of partying are disrupted by Cass’s helper, Yayo, who tries to rein them in. An altercation ensues between Ada, Cass and Yayo, leading to a shocking turn of events.

Yayo then leads the group to Lunti, a remote village governed by a mysterious woman named Inayon. The village’s strange customs and eerie atmosphere, set against the backdrop of the beautiful Sagada, soon turn the group’s adventure into a nightmare. Stripped of their wealth and status, the friends must navigate the perils of Lunti, facing a fight for survival that challenges their privileged existence.

With the film’s unique storyline and talented cast, “How to Slay a Nepo Baby” is a must-watch for all suspense and thriller genre enthusiasts.

At the same media conference, Ramirez — a former “Pinoy Big Brother discovery who shot to fame via the teleserye route — said, “This movie is very different to anything I’ve done before. I even felt something weird during filming — like something was stopping us from finishing it,” she meaningfully added. “I’m just really excited for everyone to see it.”

Ramirez, who was unable to attend the media conference after falling ill that day, will be crossing over from one eerie platform to another, currently starring in the musical “Little Shop of Horrors,” playing at Maybank Performing Arts Theater.

Completing the cast of “nepo babies” are Phi Palmos, JC Galano, Charm Aranton, Chaye Mogg, Sue Prado, Naia Ching, Ralph Gomez, Phi Gomez and Coi Suazo.

“How to Slay a Nepo Baby” is poised to be a standout offering for the year as it invites audiences to explore what happens when privilege is stripped away, and survival becomes the ultimate test. It opens in cinemas nationwide on July 31.
