Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) inaugurated its P12.8-billion production line in San Fernando, Cebu.

The state-of-the-art facility is expected to significantly boost domestic cement production, reducing the Philippines’ reliance on imports and supporting the government’s “Build Better More” infrastructure program.

“Taiheiyo’s new plant in San Fernando, Cebu will bolster the Philippines’ cement production by 3 million tons annually, reducing our reliance on imports. This investment aligns perfectly with our government’s ‘Build Better More’ infrastructure program,” said Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual who attended the inauguration ceremony.

The facility, with an annual production capacity of 3 million tons, features advanced kiln renewal technology that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by at least 10 percent through decreased energy consumption and a lower clinker factor.

Beyond the new production line, Taiheiyo Cement invested P8.2 billion in related projects, including a jetty and marine belt conveyor, port area upgrades and a distribution terminal in Luzon.

The DTI said Japan is the Philippines’ second-largest trading partner and third-largest source of foreign investments.

Pascual said the government remains focused on creating a conducive investment environment and enhancing the ease of doing business to sustain the country’s robust economic growth.

“To sustain this momentum, our country is committed to improving our business environment by enhancing the ease of doing business. We are streamlining and digitalizing institutional and regulatory requirements to improve speed and overall ease of doing business, especially for strategic investments,” Pascual said.

Taiheiyo Cement committed to providing high-quality cement products while minimizing environmental impact.
