Tornadoes for entertainment | The Manila Times

I show You how To Make Huge Profits In A Short Time With Cryptos!

In the first part of the movie “Twisters,” you see a bunch of students chase a tornado in order to carry out an experiment. Clearly, this is something that would never happen in the Philippines for so many reasons.

For one, the parents would be in their business, be on a Viber group chat and tell them to just stay home, clean their room, help around the house or even just play video games instead of quite possibly wrecking the family truck.

“Twisters” is called “a current day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster. The film likewise takes place in Oklahoma, one of three whole states that’s part of the United States’ “tornado alley.”

Glen Powell shows no one stays clean and dry in ‘Twisters.’

Expect to see the storms take out turbines, decimate homes, lift cars and sweep away humans.

Enter our weather enthusiasts Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones), Javi (Anthony Ramos) and Tyler (Glen Powell) who find themselves setting up camp in time for tornado season — to gather data, run experiments or pull off crazy stunts for an online audience.

The plot is thin, although they hired consultants some of the science sounded like jargon overload and no mention is made of the term climate change. Instead of addressing it, the characters would rather work with a polymer to shrink storms. How much would it cost to produce that polymer, how much would it cost to deploy and what would be the impact of all that?

However, any overthinking defeats the purpose of the movie. It’s ultimately meant to be a silly summer film with special effects, a ‘cowboy scientist,’ modified trucks, a rodeo, acts of heroism (characters keep saying, “We’ve got to help them!”), rivalry and romance.

The film is now out in cinemas and at the IMAX. I’m curious as to how the 4DX version would play out — are the seats going to give the sensation you’ll be sucked out into a funnel? Will there be wind and rain?

Glen Powell is certainly part of the draw after the surprise box office performance of “Anyone but You” and the positive response to “Hit Man.” You’ll forget all the science questions because you’re watching him being a very charming cowboy.

The film also stars David Corenswet (the next Superman), Katy O’Brian (“The Mandalorian,” “Quantumania”) and Harry Haden-Patton (“The Crown,” “Downton Abbey”).

Lee Isaac Chung (“Minari”) is known for his low budget independent films, this is his first shot at a summer blockbuster.
