A tourist was killed while engaging in a water activity at a Lapu-Lapu City resort, according to a 24 Oras Weekend report on Sunday.
A video showed the 43-year-old tourist sitting at the end of a jumping balloon as the staff jumped at the other end.
Instead of the water, the tourist landed on the jumping balloon head first before crashing into the water.
The staff rescued the tourist when they noticed she was not moving and immediately brought her to the hospital.
The police said the tourist’s cause of death was a spinal injury due to water sports, based on the death certificate.
The resort’s manager said guests were given instructions before proceeding with extreme water sports.
He added that they are ready to offer compensation.
There was no information yet on whether the victim’s family would file a lawsuit against the resort.
The Lapu-Lapu City tourism office ordered the temporary closure of the resort to make way for the investigation. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/DVM, GMA Integrated News
