MANILA, Philippines — Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV has formally joined Aksyon Demokratiko in preparation for his plan to run for mayor of Caloocan in 2025.
Trillanes confirmed on a social media post that he is now part of Aksyon Demokratiko.
He was sworn in by party chairman Ernest Ramel Jr. on Monday.
Citing a clean, good and efficient governance as the party’s advocacy, Ramel said “we warmly accept Trillanes as a member of Aksyon Demokratiko.”
Former Manila mayor Isko Moreno is the president of Aksyon Demokratiko. Former senator Raul Roco’s widow, Sonia, is chairperson emeritus.
Gabriela’s Brosas declares Senate bid
Congresswoman Arlene Brosas, the militant lawmaker representing women’s group Gabriela, has announced her senatorial bid in the May 2025 midterm elections.
In a statement, Brosas said her senatorial bid “represents a significant step in advancing the representation of women’s rights and progressive policies in the Senate.”
“If what the people see are the same rotten, criminal, corrupt, oppressive leaders subservient to the interests of the few and foreign powers, I and many other women who aspire for genuine change will not remain silent and merely watch,” Brosas declared.
She thanked the Committee of 100 Women, representing various sectors and professions, “for leading the charge in bringing Gabriela from the House of Representatives to the Senate.”
Brosas credited her legislative career with the passage of five bills that have been signed into “landmark laws,” including the Occupational Safety and Health Law, Expanded Maternity Leave Law, Safe Spaces Law, the law increasing the age for statutory rape and the Expanded Solo Parent Welfare Act.
