MANILA, Philippines — It was a night of culture and couture at “TernoCon 2024” at the Museo del Galeón at the SM Mall of Asia.
“TernoCon 2024: Kasarinlan, Kultura, Kasuotan” was held on June 10, 2024, a fashionable prelude to the 126th Philippine Independence Day. This project is part of the #LoveLocal campaign of Bench and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Rising designer du jour Jaggy Glarino of General Santos City presented a collection entitled “Lemlunay” — a recollection of his childhood memories growing up in Mindanao, and its cultural heritage.
He worked with the T’boli community to create beaded patterns that looked like textile from a distance. Some ensembles have Lotus flowers inspired by Lake Sebu and solihiya weaves, all remarkably done by hand. There was also a stunning gold mesh “sablay” crocheted from metal thread.
Supermodel-actress and Binibining Pilipinas Maja 1992 Marina Benipayo was Glarino’s muse.
Some ensembles from Glarino’s collection are currently displayed in an exhibit at the SM Mall of Asia Main Mall Atrium until June 23, 2024.
The event and exhibit are presented by Bench, SM Supermalls, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
“The little gay boy in me wouldn’t have thought this was a possibility. Sharing the stage with my idols Cary Santiago and Jojie Lloren was definitely one for the books,” Glarino gushed on his socials. “A dream come true. Thank you, TernoCon!” — Video by C.
