MANILA, Philippines — A woman was charged for allegedly throwing a newborn infant onto a garbage heap in Valenzuela on Thursday.
Mayor Weslie Gatchalian said the suspect, whom he identified as Daizy, 31, is facing a case of abortion before the office of the city prosecutor.
The complaint against the suspect came after her child was found dead in a garbage heap in front of a convenience store in Barangay Punturin on Thursday at around 10 p.m.
A scavenger was sorting the pile of garbage when he found a green plastic bag that contained the baby, with its umbilical cord and placenta still attached.
The local police formed a tracker team to hunt down the person responsible for the infant’s death.
The suspect was identified through a closed-circuit television video that showed her carrying the same plastic bag that contained the child.
She was caught while attending a court hearing at the municipal trial court of Valenzuela on Friday morning.
Records show the suspect was apprehended last May 10 for estafa.
The woman will undergo a gynecological examination, police said.
