GAMING communities like Yield Guild Games (YGG) Pilipinas integrate cutting-edge technology with local traditions to foster a dynamic Web3 culture in the Philippines. YGG is a Web3 Guild Protocol that enables players and gaming guilds to find their community, discover games, and level up together. Today, the event at Ayala Malls TriNoma in Quezon City showcases YGG Pilipinas’ year-long effort to make Web3 gaming accessible to Filipinos.

“Our mission has been to democratize access to Web3 opportunities for Filipinos nationwide. After connecting with Web3 communities in Batangas, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, and Bacolod over the past year, we are excited to host the final chapter of the Roadtrip in the nation’s capital,” said Mench Dizon, YGG Pilipinas country head.

In the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip, the Philippines’ rich cultural diversity and the Web3 gaming industry have come together. The Roadtrip brought events to different parts of the Philippines to introduce Filipino players to the Web3 gaming industry. It gave companies and Web3 games a place to showcase themselves, highlighting how this technology has the potential to completely transform the Filipino gaming market. Events in Batangas, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, and Baguio drew more than 5,000 attendees. Every location gave a different cultural experience, from the MassKara dancers in Bacolod to Camp John Hay in Baguio. In Cebu, participants enjoyed a culturally interactive “bring me” game, while Davao’s cosplay community showcased their talents with over 80 cosplayers in intricate costumes.

Through Grok’s analysis of X platform, it was found that the general consensus among attendees of the YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip was that they valued the chance to learn about and engage with Web3 and blockchain-based games. One participant noted that the event allowed them to discover games beyond Axie Infinity.

The event was also praised for its ability to connect online communities in real life, fostering a sense of camaraderie and excitement for the advancements in e-sports and digital entertainment. One attendee suggested improvements, such as providing clearer purchasing instructions for the JamboPhone, and another wanted more information and guides for the games and platforms featured during the event.

Key partnerships contributed to the Roadtrip’s success. Significant contributions were made to the planning of these events by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and local government units (LGUs). Notable contributions included a speech by Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas Mayor Janet Magpantay Ilagan, who encouraged local youth to seize the opportunities presented by Web3 gaming. International collaborators also participated, with Simon Davis, Mighty Bear Games chief executive, flying in from Singapore; Jill Keyshap, Immutable executive producer; and Martha Schoppa, game product manager, coming from Australia to speak at the Cebu leg.

The final stop of the Roadtrip in Manila is expected to be the biggest event yet. Attendees can look forward to game demonstrations and live matches for Web3 games such as Parallel, My Pet Hooligan, and Petopia, as well as a preview of BreederDAO’s upcoming game, Creatorverse. The event features Web3 and gaming leaders, including YellowPanther, Forbes Web3 Gaming Creator of the Year; KaizerGaming88, co-founder of GamingGrid; Disi, YGG esports captain; and Spamandrice, Axie Infinity champion.

Attendees can explore booths in the event’s Experience Zone to learn more about sponsors like Coins.ph, BreederDAO, and JamboPhone. These booths will offer giveaways, including JamboPhones, NFTs, Web3 in-game assets, shirts, keychains and tumblers. YGG Pilipinas’ Web3 Metaversity Program will organize talks and workshops to introduce newcomers to Web3. Local rock band Lola Amour will perform live, featuring their hit “Raining in Manila.” The Manila leg will also host the Roadtrip’s biggest cosplay competition, with a P100,000 prize pool.

For those unable to attend in person, YGG Pilipinas partnered with the virtual activations company Edison. Edison’s metaverse platform allows guests to experience the event virtually through tours of interactive booths, gaming demos, and networking opportunities. Similar to the in-person experience, virtual participants can also progress through a series of quests to earn awards and prizes.

As YGG Pilipinas wraps up its Roadtrip in Manila, the integration of Web3 gaming and Filipino culture is presented as a pathway to a digital future. Embracing Web3 offers benefits such as increased economic growth, transparency, and security through digital assets and decentralized finance. YGG Pilipinas highlights the potential for innovation and creativity, aiming to enable Filipinos to participate in the global digital economy. However, challenges such as limited understanding, financial concerns, and regulatory uncertainty could impact broader adoption. Addressing these issues will be needed for the Philippines to achieve a more equitable and sustainable digital future.
