FOR four straight days, the contracted salvor for the sunken MT Terranova off Bataan has been able to siphon off a total of 161,612 liters of oil of the 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil that the ship was carrying before it sank last July 25.

In its update report on Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on August 19, Harbor Star Shipping Services Inc. collected 2,350 liters of oil; 36,100 liters on August 20; 42,026 liters on August 21; and 81,136 liters on August 22.

Harbor Star earlier said they are targeting the completion of the siphoning process in 14 days.

In the same report, the PCG said Harbor Star disclosed that the rate of oil flow during the August 22 operation was approximately 7,200 liters per hour.

Meanwhile, BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407) conducted drone aerial surveillance and used water cannons to agitate the minimal oil sheen observed near the area where MT Terranova sank.

In the case of MTKR Jason Bradley, the PCG said the contracted salvor, Fes Challenger, conducted resealing and patching of manhole and air vents of the sunken vessel in preparation for refloating operation.

It added that its personnel observed no oil sheen during the coastline patrol near the incident vicinity waters.

MTKR Jason Bradley capsized off the village of Cabcaben in Mariveles, Bataan due to bad weather on July 27.

MV Mirola 1, meanwhile, is currently moored at Diving Industry Shipyard, Barangay Alas-Asin, Mariveles, Bataan, for retrofitting and repair.

The PCG said BRP Panglao (FPB-2402) provided security and conducted drone aerial surveillance during the operation.
