The administration’s 12-strong Senate slate for the 2025 elections that was announced by Senator Imee Marcos is not yet final, House Deputy Majority Leader Janette Garin, who is a member of Lakas-CMD party, said Wednesday.
“Sa pagkakaalam namin, wala pang pinal na pinag-uusapan (As far as I know, there is nothing final yet). There were discussions among political party leaders, names were recommended, put forward, but this is just the first step,” Garin, who joined Lakas-CMD just six months ago, said in a press conference.
The next step, according to Garin, is consultation among members of various political parties to reach a consensus.
“The final decision will rest on what the majority believes and of course, the clearance from our president and leaders of political parties. In other words, baka kuryente iyong lumabas (maybe the list is not true),” Garin said.
“Sa pagkakaalam namin, wala pang pinal na napag-usapan (As far as we know, nothing is final so far).”
In a Viber message on Tuesday, Senator Marcos, sister of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., said the administration “decided” on the lineup in a meeting on Monday night.
South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo Jr., president of the ruling PFP, denied that the administration has finalized its senatorial lineup for next year’s elections.
Senator Marcos had admitted that she was not in the meeting where the supposed lineup was discussed. —NB/KBK, GMA Integrated news
