Government agents have raided a warehouse in Taguig City suspected of selling unregistered canned goods and other food products.
The operation led to the seizure of 1,355 boxes of unregistered luncheon meat worth over P3 million, marked money, and sales receipts, and the arrest of at least four individuals, including the business owner.
The raiding team is composed of men from the Southern Police District’s Special Operations Unit and Intelligence Division, in coordination with the Taguig Police Substation 2, National Intelligence Support Group, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Field Regulatory Operations Office and Regulatory Enforcement Unit.
The raid at the warehouse situated inside the Veterans Center in Bicutan was conducted Wednesday afternoon based on the search warrant issued by Judge Mariam Bien of the Taguig Regional Trial Court Branch 153.
The establishment was reported for operating without a license and alleged possession and sale of unregistered food products.
The SPD will file a complaint against the arrested individuals for violating Republic Act 9711, or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act of 2009.
The investigation remains ongoing, with SPD and FDA officials exploring further criminal and administrative complaints.
The FDA formed a Technical Working Group called “Oplan Katharos” last year to develop and implement guidelines for proper handling, storage, and disposal of seized health products.
The agency is committed to safeguarding public health against the proliferation of counterfeit, adulterated, misbranded, and unregistered processed food, devices, drugs, cosmetics, household hazardous substances, and other health products.
