(UPDATES) THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Wednesday that distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can now get bigger financial assistance through the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (Aksyon) fund.
A department order signed by Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said needy OFWs and their next of kin can receive P50,000 to P100,000 cash aid from the agency.
“The request for financial assistance along with the required documents stated under Department Order No. 05, Series of 2023 shall be submitted onsite through the Migrant Workers Office or to the DMW if the worker is already in the Philippines, within one year after arrival in the country,” it said.

The aid can be disbursed through bank transfer, money remittance, plain cash, or any cost-effective mode subject to bank rules and regulations.
Aksyon was created for OFWs who were displaced because of the economic downturn in their host countries or the bankruptcy of their employer. Those who were retrenched, were victims of maltreatment, contract violations and illegal recruitment, or incapacitated by illness or injury, were also qualified for the aid.
