Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala inched closer to the US Open main draw as she advanced on Thursday (Philippine time) to the third round of the Grand Slam tournament’s qualifiers.
World no. 148 Eala defeated world no. 99 Nuria Parrizas Diaz of Spain in the second round of the qualifying draw, 7-5, 7-5.
Hours before the said match, Eala thanked those who supported her in the opening round where she won against Maddison Inglis of Australia, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
“Minsan-minsan lang ako naglalaro sa ganitong klaseng atmosphere. Napakaswerte ko na naranasan ang suporta ng mga Pinoy dito sa New York,” she wrote in the caption of her post.
Eala will face Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse, ranked no. 123, in their third round scheduled on Friday (Philippine time).
