Real estate firm Arthaland Corp. signed another agreement with Lopez-led First Gen Corp. for additional supply of electricity from a renewable energy source to power its state-of-the-art Savya Financial Center project in Taguig City.

First Gen said in a statement over the weekend Arthaland’s new agreement reaffirmed the property developer’s commitment to shifting to clean and renewable energy sources all the electricity supply needs of its entire real estate portfolio by year 2030 as part of the property firm’s Net Zero goal.

Arthaland’s 18-story Savya Financial Center, inaugurated in 2022, is equipped with features such as energy-efficient lighting and air conditioning, double-glazed low-emissivity glass, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and a rainwater harvesting and recycling system.

These features allow the building to save up to 40 percent on electricity and water consumption.

“We envision the Savya Financial Center as a safe, healthy, and more productive working environment for all its occupants. We made every effort to ensure we source 100 percent renewable energy to decarbonize the building’s operations to provide a positive impact on people and the planet,” said Arthaland senior vice president for sales operations, leasing and project marketing and chief sustainability officer Oliver Chan.

Savya Financial Center has been pre-certified for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification and is on track for the Philippine Green Building Council’s BERDE certification, International WELL Building Institute’s WELL Building Standard and the International Finance Corp.’s Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) advanced certification.

Both companies have been working together since 2019, when they first reached an agreement for First Gen supply of electricity from a renewable energy source for Arthaland Century Pacific Tower (ACPT).

ACPT is the first building in the world to earn a certification as a zero-carbon-neutral building under the EDGE certification program.

“Arthaland and First Gen share a common vision towards a decarbonized and regenerative future. It is our privilege to collaborate with Arthaland in helping deliver socio-economic gains while reducing our impact on the environment. As we expand our renewable energy portfolio, we hope to continue our partnership with Arthaland in their decarbonization journey,” said First Gen vice president for power marketing, trading and economics Carlo Vega.

First Gen’s 30 power plants have a combined 3,668 megawatts (MW) capacity, making it also one of the country’s biggest independent power producers.
